Asos Wears...

Asoswearssusieyoungseniorwomenspr_2

Who: Susie Young

What: Senior Womenswear Press Officer

Which means? "We do much more than the stereotypical "wine em, dine em" approach. As a press team, we think of various wonderful ways to communicate the asos message to press; from seasonal press events to bespoke product launches, look books, interactive press releases, newsflashes... This is all done to ensure that our news and products appear in the magazines you read, the TV you watch and the websites you click."

About the outfit: "This picture was taken at our Spring Summer 09 press day. I went for a mixture of something relatively new (my black patent caged Lotus shoes) , something old (my mum's ring that I wear on my Dogeared necklace), and something borrowed (a Diesel Black Gold silk jersey number) which I love for being laid back yet dressy at the same time."

My personal style is: "Probably quite predictable as I always have people say "that's so Susie!”. Floral dresses with a comfort blanket (aka a trusty slouchy cardi) or pocket skirt and t-shirt combos usually do the weekly rounds in my wardrobe."

My ultimate style icon is: "The fictitious lovechild of Faye Dunaway (circa Bonnie & Clyde) and Steve McQueen (circa anytime will do with him!). Thinking in reality though, I really like some of the young kids out there, like American model Cory Kennedy, and the street style in San Francisco – I love the messy cool look."

Currently on my asos shopping list: "I'm already in spring/summer mode, so I can't wait to get my hands on our rose print jeans, floral jumpsuits and gorgeous premium leather asos shoes!"

My beauty secret: "I’m still trying to find it, but I couldn’t function without long lie-ins at the weekend, and my YSL Touche Eclat to cover tired eyes"

Fashion mantra: "A dress a day keeps the doctor at bay"

Asoswearsjenniferchoiseniorgarmentt

Who: Jennifer Choi

What: Senior Garment Technologist

Which means? "I oversee every aspect of all our clothes, including the fit, quality and material, and ensure it's all perfect. On a day-to-day basis I attend fit sessions with our female models, which can be a bit depressing! But it's all part of the job."

Hails from: Sydney, Australia

Length of Service: "Two years - I've had my ups and downs working in London but I absolutely love working here"

About my outfit: "I love basic pieces, hence the white t-shirt and black leggings, although I dress them up with key items. My knitted top is my favourite cardi in the whole world - it's by an Australian design team called Camilla and Mark. My boots are from asos and I absolutely love them - I'm really into the whole over-the-knee trend - and my necklace was a present. It's by David Aubrey whose jewellery I'm a big fan of - it's very antique looking."

My style icons are: "I have two - Marlene Dietrich because she questioned conventional beauty and pushed the idea of femininity, and Chloë Sevigny because she mixes old and new ideas and makes them look amazing."

My 'can't live without' items are: "Mascara - no question. And Bonds underwear. That's such an Aussie thing to say!"

Currently lusting after: "The All Over Sequin Playsuit is definitely on my shopping list for the festive season. I also really want the amazing L.A.M.B Round Toe Heels - they are a perfect fit - and the Paul & Joe Sister Angora Knit Tunic - the buttons are so cute!"

Fashion mantra: "Have fun with your clothes and always be confident"

My style is... "Anything from high-waisted jeans and trainers to so-tight-you-can’t-sit-down pencil skirts and seamed stockings"

About the outfit: "It's all very much on-trend for this season's gothic and punk looks, especially the black lace top and the tartan heels"

My 'can't live without' item is... "Red nail varnish"

Style icon... "A cross between Gwen Stefani and Dita Von Teese, whom I photographed for this very blog a couple of weeks ago – check it out!"

Currently on my shopping list: "The Dogtooth Pencil Skirt, which is perfect for after-work dates. I'm also craving a pair of L.A.M.B killer heels!"

Fashion mantra: "Take a leaf out of Chanel's book and always take off the last thing you put on – no matter how much you love accessories!"

Asoswearsvictoriaboltonbuyersassi_2

Who? Victoria Bolton

What? Buyer's Assistant on women's designer brands. "I'm responsible for looking after lots of lovely designer and boutique clothes (it's a hard life), as well as planning shoots, selecting product for newsletters and our magazine, and raising orders (yawn). I do get to do some fun fashion things though, like going to the shows (and parties) at London Fashion Week"

Length of service: "Just over a year"

About my outfit: "It's vintage pieces mixed with some basics and designer accessories. The shirt, shoes and belt are from a vintage shop in Newcastle and my skirt is actually a boob tube! My hat is Helene Berman for Asos and I’m wearing a Kenneth Jay Lane ring - I collect his gorgeous statement cocktail jewellery"

My style icon is... "Erm, can I have a few!? Chloë Sevigny is quirky, cool and doesn’t follow anyone else rules, and I love Alice Dellal’s grungy scruffy street look. Oh, and my Gran - half of my wardrobe was once hers!"

The beauty secret I swear buy is... "Talcum powder - I swear by it. Ask any of my friends, I use it in my hair everyday - I like the colour and texture it gives my hair plus it saves washing it so often!"

On my asos shopping list: "Every single bit from the new Beckerman collection - I love it. Plus I'm going to be purchasing the Sass and Bide Black Rats leggings as soon as they come in. I’m also in the market for a new hat. I’m thinking a grey top hat; I have a circus theme in mind for AW!"

Fashion mantra: "If you love it, buy it. You might not wear it now but chances are when you’re feeling brave enough it will become one of your favourite pieces and you’ll have it forever"

Asos Wears...

After an overwhelming response from you guys, this feature is back by popular demand! Introducing this week's fashionista...

Asoswearseffrosynintoumouzigraphicd

Who: Effrosyni Ntoumouzi ("I'm a Greek gal!"), or Efi to her friends

What: Graphic Designer; "I get to art direct product shoots in addition to designing our site features and our lovely beauty newsletters. Oh, and of course I have to keep up-to-date with the fashion world (my excuse for reading Elle cover-to-cover every month!)"

Length of service: "2 and a half years and still loving it"

My style is... : "Street with a glamorous edge. And I'm a bit of a shoe addict - I have a massive collection"

Outfit breakdown: "Beginning with the shoes (naturally), they are asos and were the shoes this summer - everyone here was wearing them. I can't quite bring myself to put them away yet. I love brands; my shorts are by Diesel and my scarf is Illustrated People. The t-shirt is branded too, it's by Firetrap - I'm a big fan of graphic prints and this one is really cool. And my bracelets are asos too!"

Celebrity of choice: "It has to be Dita Von Teese - she's so glamorous. Her dress code is completely unique. I can't wait for her Wonderbra collection to launch on site"

Fashion mantra: "Start with some fabulous shoes and build your outfit around them"

The Return of Asos Wears..!

Loyal Asos Today readers may remember a feature we used to do way back  (well, about a year ago) called Asos Wears..., which gave you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at just what us fashion-types wear to work. Well, we thought it was about time we resurrected this once-popular feature, and so, without further ado, let us introduce you to this week's fashionista...

Asoswearsamydaviesprmanager

Who: Amy Davies

What: PR Manager

Length of service: "Coming up to three years - I'm classed as an Asos old-timer"

Job involves: "Generating and maximising press coverage for asos.com, organising press events and launches, maintaining relationships with the fashion press - it's definitely not all cocktails and breakfast brunches!"

About the outfit: "The skirt is Poppy Valentine; I love it because it's high-waisted and made of limited edition vintage material, which means I'm less likely to see anyone else wearing it. I've paired it with a basic grey tee - you can never have enough - and a gold pendant. And the shoes aren't even available yet; my job means I get to see - and wear - the new collections long before they arrive on site."

Currently topping her shopping list: "The SJP Gladiator Sandals, Junk Food's Paris is For Lovers Tee and the Zip Back Top

Fashion mantra: "It's not what you wear, it's how you wear it"

ASOS Wears...

This Week's Fashionista - Ellie Ward, Assistant Buyer, Women's Tops

Ellie_w_4

Having won the "Best Dressed" award at the ASOS.com summer party, it's no surprise to hear that Ellie's unique style is envied throughout the office. Her skill lies in her ability to take the simplest of items and put them together in a winning way. Take this outfit for example - the black scoop neck top, black tights and woven tan belt are all wardrobe basics. She adds a fashion-forward edge with a denim high-waisted skirt and finishes the look with a great pair of knee-high boots (essential footwear this winter), plenty of silver bangles and her trademark full, glossy fringe. Her top tip of the season? “Nail polish” she says. “It’s the easiest way of updating your look without forking out loads – I’m wearing Nails Inc's China Town at the moment”. One thing’s for sure, she's putting up one hell of a fight in defence of her title.

ASOS Wears...

This Week's Fashionista - Jenny Stafford, Buyer's Admin Assistant, Menswear

As part of the ultra-hardworking menswear department, ASOS.com's resident netball coach and one of a gaggle of northerners in the company, Jenny's style is fashion-forward yet has a definite air of functionality. This outfit is a perfect example of this. The dress (from a vintage fair, if you're wondering) is a great shade of grey, the neutral colour this season, and which she can wear such a light shade of thanks to her dark colouring. She cinches the waist and adds a flattering dash of colour with a bright pink belt, ticking the "block colour" trend box with one fell swoop. With the weather on the turn, Jen opts for practical matching boots and a bag in a slightly darker grey to add depth to the outfit, and finishes the look with a touch of subtle bling in the form of a silver watch and ring. Understated yet incredibly effective.
