Our Competition Winner Reviews Global Gathering 08!

Hundreds upon hundreds of you entered our competition to win a pair of Globalwinner1_2VIP tickets to this year's   Global Gathering earlier this month, but there could only be one winner! And that winner was Karen Skeats from Gloustershire.

Armed with the two-man tent that came as part of the prize, Karen headed to the Global Gathering fields with her boyfriend Tom last weekend - here's what she had to say about the music and the fashion...

Sp1 Global Gathering 2008 was a scorcher of a weekend – and that included the weather!

Friday evening saw the lucky festival goers dancing the night away to the likes of the Scratch Perverts and Kanye West on the main stage. With the sun setting on the crowds of GG08, the energy of Kanye’s set captured us all, with ‘Gold Digger’ being the biggest hit.

Globalwinner2_2Hadouken! warmed up Saturday afternoon, with singer James Smith stating “It’s bloody hot so let’s get this done with” - which is exactly what they did. ‘Crank it up’ got the crowd moving and ready for the following acts. Later on GG08 goers chilled in the heat to the gorgeous music of the always stylish Roisin Murphy.

Mark Ronson completed the main stage acts on Saturday night, rocking it out with his live band. The absolute highlight for me had to be the surprise appearance of Wiley on stage with Mark Ronson to perform ‘Wearing My Rolex’ - completely unexpectedly, he bound on stage and got the whole crowd singing along.

As far as the clothing goes, most people were sporting theirGlobalwinner3 best frocks (including me in my  fave ASOS number, the Paint Print Tulip Skirt Dress) for the Friday night, and then giving in to the dust and heat on Saturday. Many could be spotted hanging out in neons and fluffy boots, especially outside the ‘Random Concept’ tent where the line up included Andy C and Hype. It seemed the general consensus was to wear as little as possible whilst still making it just about feasible to dance! Sunglasses were also a must.

Overall the festival vibe was chilled and friendly as always, with campers sharing what shade and water sources there were available. Friday and Saturday morning most campers could be found queuing for a bacon sandwich, including Alice Spooner from Hadouken!

By far the best (and possibly only!) prize I’ve ever won, I don’t think this could be topped and I will definitely be using the camping gear again for more festivals!Sp2_6

Massive thanks to Karen for letting us know how much she enjoyed herself! Check out the best dressed party-goers we spied in the Global Gathering fields - and keep your eyes peeled for our exclusive interview with Roisin Murphy backstage at the festival...
